Cupcakes

I've been dying to bake for ages. So while there's a big festival going on that I'm not at and I'm watching my niece I decided that it's time. Here are the results. I am oh so proud!
They're pecan, vanilla or white chocolate and decorated with various combinations of white cocolate, brown chocolate, dark chocolate, buttercream icing, sprinkles, silver chocolate hearts, coloured chocolate hearts, hundreds and thousands and pecans. And they're delicious!

Kinga Burza

..is the woman responsible for the Kate Nash 'Foundations' video. The part at the end where the toothbrushes, the casios and the trendy socks seperate is London-kitsch-chic heaven. It even made me like the song. The colours are perfect. The video (as with all of her videos for Kate Nash,) match the song completely.

Kate Nash's Foundations

But Ms. Burza is not a one trick pony. She also directed the amazing video for La Roux's 'Quicksand' which seems to me to have a little bit of a Sam Haskins' in camera video montage about it which can only be a good thing. As if to prove her cool credentials, she also directed the sexy, black, futuristic video 'In For The Kill'.

La Roux's Quicksand
It's not surprising to learn that Burza is a fan of Michel Gondry. “I always really admired all of the directors there [Directors Label], especially Michel Gondry. I’d always liked the naivity and the open-mindedness in his work." And I think she has just replaced him in my affections as video clip artiste du choix. That's just me trying to be pretentious and saying that I really dig Kinga Burza's style.

Not only is she a talented and inventive director, she seems to be an amazing hunter-gatherer of vintage floral dresses too. She has a unique kind of style, but not outlandish which is what I like about it. It's London cool. She'd fit in well on the set of the Mighty Boosh. Infact, she'd fit in well behind the camera there too.

This Polish-Australian will be a force to be reckoned with in the future. She has already clocked up a string of awards and nominations, most prestigiously winning the best pop video VMA 2008 for 'Foundations'. And was nominated for best female video at the MTV VMAs 2008 for Katy Perry's 'I Kissed A Girl'.

Signed to Partizan records, Burza is based in London and has said she hopes to work with Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs in the future. I think it would be a match made in ....well it would probably be made in some aircraft hanger somewhere. The resulting collaboration would be quite brilliantly original. She also said she'd like to work with the "sexy" Beyonce.

From the basic, budgetless videos for Tilly and the Wall's 'Sings Songs Along' and the Teenager's 'Homecoming', Burza has built upon her short career and promises even more tricks up her bell sleeves with later videos such as James Blunt's 'Love love love' - a hippy, Cocteauesque (is that too many vowels together?), video with vintage-clad ladies prancing about like wild love children which makes the Sterephonic's 'Have A Nice Day' video look like Bridget Jones' knickers.

James Blunt's Love Love Love

What's most striking about her work is that you can clearly see it's coming from music, fashion, photography and a true love for baked goods. Let's hope that big budgets don't ruin that underground feel. But I do like the more polished looks she has been producing of late.

As well as all these video clips, Burza recently directed a fashion clip for Barbara Halanicki for Topshop. It showed off the clothes in beautiful light, while keeping focus on the pieces and retaining quirky, interesting facets that are Burza's signature. Burza is currently reading scripts and looking into film projects.

Oh and did I mention her hair? It is a crowning glory of shiney, long red locks worthy of Godiva, protecting a unique and intruiging mind. Burza is a flying the female flag in a male-dominated arena, and although she is quite fetching to look at, let's not let that take away from the fact that she is a truly intelligent and innovative artist.
